What is a clickable link?
Also known as a hyperlink, is a URL pasted into a selected piece of text that links to a post or page on your blog, and when clicked on, prompts your browser to open a new webpage containing your linked posts or pages.
In essence, a clickable link is designed to navigate readers to other content pieces to serve a variety of purposes, such as recommending affiliate links or other articles on your blog, to a dedicated landing page or Pointing them to another blog for more related information.
If you want to link a post to another blog post, a clickable or hyperlink serves the best purpose of doing it in an SEO-friendly manner.
Why do we need clickable links?
Being a blogger, your most important goal is to drive traffic to your blog and eventually learn to monetize that traffic. Correct? But getting enough readers on your blog is only half the battle. The real job is to keep them on your blog by providing them with valuable content until they subscribe to your email list or newsletter and eventually become your real customers so they can get updates about your future content. Right? The next question may come to your mind- why do we need clickable links. Yes, it’s natural. Well, the answer is quite simple, you can see below.
Clickable links allow your readers to stay on your blog longer.
Clickable links help users quench their thirst for curiosity and provide them with exactly what they are looking for. For example, if you click on any of the links seen in the text here, you’ll see that they take you to more relevant posts or articles on other pages of my blog. This means, that the more you use clickable links within your content, the more likely readers are to engage with you and get more value out of your writing. In fact, they will continue to enjoy it and it is up to you to keep providing them with their valuable content.
Steps to Create Clickable Links in WordPress
Here’s a step-by-step process that will help you create your own clickable links wherever you want to create them in your text.
1. Highlight the text you want to make the clickable link

Trust me, this is nothing more than a child’s play. But since you are new to blogging or using WordPress dashboard for the first time, you might get a little confused. All you have to do is use your cursor to click and drag the part of the text you want to make into a clickable link.
Now that you’ve found the text you want to convert to the selected hyperlink, let’s see what to do next.
2. Click the Link icon in your visual editor
After dragging the selected text you will get the visual editor. You can see the link icon in the visual editor right here:

Once you click on the icon, you will see various options to paste for the target URL of the web page on which you want to make your clickable text direct like so:

3. Paste in your target URL and click ‘Apply’
The last and final step is to paste in the URL to which you want to direct your readers. After you click on the link icon, you can see an address bar for you to paste your link. Like this:

What will you do now? Just hit the “Apply” button and you are ready. Your text has now become a hyperlink. But, we still have something left. guess what?
How do make clickable links open in a new tab?

Unless you specifically set your link to open in a new tab, this will navigate your current browser window to the page that has been clicked. This is fine only when it is needed otherwise you have to prioritize your needs to decide whether you want to open it in a new tab or let it open in the same tab. There are some specific rules for when readers should open links in new tabs instead of in the same browser, which you can find here:
If you’re linking to an external page (a page or post that isn’t on your blog), open the link in a new tab—otherwise clicking on the external link may intentionally drive readers away from your blog. If you’re linking to the internal URL of (a page or post on your blog) to which you want readers to engage, open the link in a new tab that way, they have your original URL open as well.
If you are linking to a page or post with an internal URL (a page or post on your blog) that is intended to lead your visitors to other resources, make the link clickable in your current browser window Why? Because it will reduce unnecessary browser tab clusters. If you want your clickable links to open in a new tab instead of the current browser window, you can choose from the different options here before clicking the ‘Publish’ button.
Conclusion
Now that you know how you can create a clickable link, it is equally important to understand how to use them to serve a specific purpose. If you don’t know how to apply them, you could end up with a negative effect instead of making the best use of them. One more thing to remember – you can create these links while editing with a page builder like Elementor, but it is not recommended to create links in your posts or articles using Elementor. You can use it while editing the pages of your blog.
